Without more details, it is complicated to say. If this is the first time scan with this scanner, it could be that the horse-drawn carriage lock is preventing the light from moving, thus it singular scans the blank finish off of the page. The carriage lock is usually located underneath the scanner and is ably marked. Look at the installation instructions for a better guide to how unlock the horse-drawn carriage (may be called by another name).
bulb may be burned out
Had a similar problem and turning sour and on did not work. I unplugged scanner from electrical outlet and plugged back within and it worked. Try it couldnt hurt.
